Choosing a Web Host for Your Wordpress Blog

Many free blog hosting sites such as Blogger and Wordpress.com have their benefits, as they can make it easy for anyone to create a web presence. Especially if individuals are more interested in getting their content up on the web, and they hold no interest in HTML or CSS, then hosting websites like Wordpress.com, Livejournal and Blogger are excellent choices. They are free to use and that is always a benefit. 

One the other hand, free sites do not normally give you a lot of control over your blog. Wordpress.com in particular, has severe limitations such as:  

1. Unless you pay for the privilege, you cannot use your own templates, and if you are allowed to use them, you cannot modify them, even if they are Wordpress templates. 

2. You are allowed only so much space for uploading your images. 

3. You cannot install many of the useful plugins that are offered online. 

4. You cannot post your own HTML feedback forms. 

These issues and more create frustrating roadblocks when you want to do just a bit more to enhance your blog. It is at times like these that using a paid web hosting for your blog should be considered. 

Since there are so many different web hosts online, it is sometimes hard to know which one is the best one for your needs. This is something that requires a good bit of research to determine each web hosts worth. 

Keep in mind that all web hosts want your business and your money, so you do not want to settle your choice by only reading what the web hosts offers on their website, since it is normal for anyone online or off to put their best foot forward and presenting themselves in the best possible light. They will of course make an emphasis of their wonderful deals as well as their great service. When in reality, they may possible have a great many unhappy customers, who wish they had never heard of the web host or their alluring sales pitch. 

One thing you can do is to go to the Web Hosting Talk forums and read up on all the different web hosts. You will be able to find recommendations and reviews written by real people who have experienced both the good and the bad from a variety of web hosts. Keep in mind that you may not find a web host with a spotless reputation, however if you do find more negative feedback on a particular web host, it may be in your best interest if you stay far away from it. 

You can also read the forum on Wordpress.org to find opinions from others who have paid for their hosting for their Wordpress blogs. Try a few searches using such keywords as, “recommended hosting” or perhaps “good web host”. You can even ask questions on these forums once your register with them, to find out what others thing about any particular web host. People online are generally very helpful in making recommendations for some good alternatives as well as those who may feel differently by posting a rebuttal concerning their own experiences with a specific web host.  

Then with your list of good web hosts in hand, you can narrow it down a bit by contacting these companies and asking them a few questions. This can be used to test their commitment to the quality of service, which they offer. While you are conversing with them here are some things you should keep in mind. 

1. Do they return your call or get back with you quickly?2. Are their associates and technicians polite?3. Are their answers easy to understand?4. Do you think you will be happy with their kind of service, once you have signed up with their company? 

Before you sign up, be sure that the web host offers you what you truly need. You should already have a formed opinion on whether or not you will need to run PHP or Perl scripts and how much space you will require, as well as other things, before you sign up with any web host.  

Be sure the web host supports the features Wordpress will require in order to work: PHP and at least one MySQL database, if you plan to run Wordpress. 

You will be able be able to find a web host that is right for you, with a little time and effort extended by doing your research into the web host you are considering for hosting your web site.
